Siena and Reggina shared the spoils, although Siena will feel they deserved a little more from this match.
There were precious points at stake in this relegation showdown. Reggina were still looking for their first win, while Siena came from a 3-0 hammering at local rivals Fiorentina. Luca Tognozzi is out for the season, but Francesco Modesto returned from a two-match ban for the Amaranto. Ciccio Cozza faced his former club.
Curiously, Siena had never beaten Reggina here in Serie A, managing just three draws and a defeat. That 1-0 loss last term was the only goal the two teams have managed to score in their meetings.
Cristian Bucchi's header from a Jarolim cross was off target from a promising position, but at the other end Nicola Amoruso failed to make the most of the situation when he sprung the offside trap and fired straight at the 'keeper.
Bucchi also prodded a Simone Vergassola cutback inches past the base of the upright and had an acrobatic attempt tipped over by Campagnolo. The Reggina goalkeeper was tested by Simone Loria, but the Amaranto did not have a shot on target in the first half.
Yet Reggina nearly took the lead on the hour mark from a corner kick, as Amoruso's header thumped the crossbar following Dimitrios Eleftheropoulos' error and Daniele Galloppa charged down the follow-up.
