Massimo Maccarone set a new club record in this fitting finale to the campaign.
Celebration was the order of the day at the Franchi as Siena ended their season having secured safety and held Inter to a 2-2 draw last week, but the Sicilians were disappointed to only scrape a mid-table finish. Cristian Zaccardo, Amauri and probably Andrea Barzagli made their final appearances in a Palermo jersey.
Siena had never won this fixture in the top flight, managing only two Serie B victories in 1939 and 2003.
In the opening 120 seconds Massimo Maccarone opened the scoring to become the all-time Serie A top scorer in a single campaign with a Siena jersey. He sprung the offside trap on a Christian Rigano' through ball and placed a low drive past Federico Agliardi.
Palermo drew level on 24 minutes with Bosko Jankovic, who ran on to Roberto Guana's through ball to roll an angled drive into the far corner.
Agliardi had his palms stung by a Maccarone free kick, but the comeback was completed by a rare Fabrizio Miccoli header. The pint-sized striker was totally unmarked for a looping finish into the top corner.
Rigano's header from a Houssine Kharja corner kick clipped the crossbar and Miccoli drilled one of his trademark free kicks on to Eleftheropoulos' palms.
Maccarone drew Siena on level terms on the hour mark, as he dispossessed the lazy Cristian Zaccardo, skipped across Leandro Rinaudo and rolled past Agliardi.
