Claudio Bellucci bagged a brace and Vincenzo Montella scored his first home goal of the Serie A season as Sampdoria steamrollered past Parma.
Both sides were disappointed with their campaigns so far and Parma had dropped into the bottom three after just one win all term. Ferdinand Coly and star striker Bernardo Corradi were suspended and Igor Budan injured, while Samp had Sergio Volpi sitting out a ban and Antonio Cassano with a muscular problem. The real problem was goals, as the Blucerchiati had drawn a blank in five of their previous seven games.
This Serie A fixture had not ended in a stalemate since the 1-1 draw in November 1996. The two Zenoni twins - Cristian and Damiano - faced off on opposite sides.
Vincenzo Montella scored his first Serie A goal at Marassi since returning to Sampdoria, as he came sliding on to a cross from Cristian Zenoni, although it is possible Parma's Daniele Dessena got the final touch as he tried to clear.
Parma had until then been aggressive and conceding the goal saw their confidence deflate. Luca Bucci performed a miraculous double save on an acrobatic Claudio Bellucci attempt.
Montella nearly made it 2-0 before the break, denied by a tough Luca Bucci save.
Sampdoria doubled their lead within 90 seconds of the restart thanks to a marvellous Bellucci free kick that curled over the defensive wall and dipped mercilessly into the near top corner. Gennaro Delvecchio picked up an injury during that move and was stretchered off.
Bellucci completed his brace soon after. Luigi Sala's fine strike was parried by Bucci, but only into the path of Bellucci for a precise tap-in.
Andrea Pisanu's half-volley was well held and Reginaldo failed to get a consolation goal by firing off target with only the 'keeper to beat.
