Roma struggled a little more than last week, but still got the better of Siena 3-0, including another Alberto Aquilani gem.
The Tuscans have bad memories of this stadium, as it was here in February 2004 they suffered their worst ever Serie A defeat. That 6-0 still haunts them, but perhaps even more so the sight of Roma's splendid performance in last week's opening victory away to Palermo. Siena had a nightmare start, losing 2-1 on home turf to Sampdoria, and were without Alberto due to a knee injury. The Giallorossi had Amantino Mancini, David Pizarro and Matteo Ferrari injured, but welcomed Juan back to the squad.
Before kick-off Francesco Totti was given the Golden Shoe award as top scorer in all the European Leagues last term. It was the second consecutive year in which an Italian took the title.
After four minutes Daniele Portanova's dreadful error handed the ball straight to Totti, but the lob was just over.
Mirko Vucinic and Rodrigo Taddei were allowed to exchange passes inside the area and the Croat's finish was beaten away by Alex Manninger's palms.
Manninger was eventually defeated on 17 minutes, as Alberto Aquilani thumped one of his trademark right-foot screamers from distance in off the underside of the crossbar.
Siena fought back with Mario Frick's pull-back to the unmarked De Ceglie intercepted at the last second by Marco Cassetti's sliding tackle.
Ludovic Giuly's smart move set up a chance that Totti had charged down and Rodrigo Taddei's acrobatic backheel attempt from Max Tonetto's assist was inches wide.
Massimo Maccarone really should have equalised when clear on goal, but fired straight at Alexander Doni's chest.
Aquilani nearly doubled Roma's lead with another long-range stunner, this time it smashed against the bar and went back out, Manninger again left stranded.
Totti's left-foot shot skimmed the base of the upright, but Siena also threatened with Leandro Grimi turning over from a promising position.
The Capitolini seemed sluggish and left the game open for a possible comeback. Doni had to come sprinting out to smother the ball at Simone Vergassola's feet on 56 minutes.
Giuly had the chance to put the result under lock and key, but fired straight at the goalkeeper. Totti's fine run set up Giuly, but once again the final ball was lacking.
Doni flew to palm a Paul Codrea rocket out from under the crossbar and Roma youth product Daniele Corvia should have scored against his former club, instead ballooning over.
Giuly finally netted his first Serie A goal and secured the points. He was onside for Aquilani's chipped pass and the Frenchman slotted a low finish in at the near corner from eight yards.
Siena poured forward looking for at least a consolation, but this allowed Totti to run all the way up the field for a classic solo effort and low powerful right-foot finish in at the near post.
There was still time for Brazilian defender Juan to make his Serie A debut after recovering from injury.
