Serie A Week 13 - 25/11/07 (14.00 UK)
Reggina 0 - 0 Fiorentina
Stadio Granillo

Reggina had penalty appeals waved away in this ill-tempered stalemate.

Cesare Prandelli was not on the Viola bench for this game, as pain from kidney stones forced him to turn back at the airport on Saturday afternoon. Assistant manager Gabriele Pin took over and had to deal with a side missing Adrian Mutu, Fabio Liverani, Manuel Pasqual and Tomas Ujfalusi, so they switched to a one-man attack. Renzo Ulivieri may be the oldest Coach in Serie A aged 66, but he was fit and raring to go with a Reggina squad that had picked up four points in the two games since he replaced Massimo Ficcadenti.

Reggina had never previously beaten Fiorentina in the top flight - home or away - but were also undefeated against them at the Granillo since October 2004.

Riccardo Montolivo drilled wide from 28 metres, while Nicola Amoruso failed to get his snapshot on target.

It was an extremely dull start to the match, but after 25 minutes Montolivo had another snapshot from distance and Cascione blasted just off target after he slipped from nine yards.

The Amaranto had penalty appeals for a Michele Pazienza handling offence, but the referee controversially awarded a free kick to Fiorentina for a Cascione push.

Montolivo was booked for a foul on Luca Vigiani and will be suspended for next week's big match with Inter. His free kick was flicked past the far post off Franco Semioli's heel, but Sebastien Frey pushed a dangerous Vigiani cross on to teammate Alessandro Gamberini and the Viola were fortunate to clear.

Christian Vieri replaced Giampaolo Pazzini, but Simone Missiroli wasted a golden opportunity when his first touch let him down with only Frey to beat. There were penalty appeals as substitute Antony Vanden Borre clattered into Missiroli.

Valdez missed Montolivo's ball over the defence, so Campagnolo had to rush out to close down Vieri.

With the last kick of the game, Reggina had a goal disallowed for handball, as Edgar Barreto clearly punched the cross into the net.
