Serie A Week 38 - 18/5/08 (14.00 UK)
Parma 0 - 2 Inter
Ibrahimovic 62, 79 (I)
Stadio Tardini

Zlatan Ibrahimovic could not have been more decisive, as Inter were losing the title before he came off the bench for a Scudetto clinching brace! It's heartbreak for Parma, who are relegated to Serie B.

Roberto Mancini's men had an 11-point lead in February, but it all came down to the final 90 minutes. A victory would mathematically secure the Scudetto, but that had been the case for several weeks and they failed to do it against Milan or Siena. To make matters more complicated, the Gialloblu needed a win to stay in Serie A (and for Catania to lose with Roma) and made their debut under youth Coach Andrea Manzo following Hector Cuper's surprise dismissal.

The tension was rising ahead of the toughest day for Inter since losing the title on the last day on May 5, 2002 and one man who was playing for Lazio in that infamous 4-2 result was Parma's Fernando Couto, who here returned from a ban. Rossi, Daniele Dessena and Macdonald Mariga were suspended plus Domenico Morfeo and Giulio Falcone injured. Inter welcomed Zlatan Ibrahimovic back from a long-term knee problem, but lost Esteban Cambiasso.

The Nerazzurri's Tardini record was dismal with just two wins and 10 defeats in 17 visits, though they emerged 2-1 winners last season thanks to Julio Cruz and Ibra. Although Inter fans were supposedly banned, quite a few got tickets inside the stadium and 4,000 were outside the gates.

Parma had the first great chance on 11 minutes, as a corner fell to Stefano Morrone unmarked from seven yards and Julio Cesar used his legs to parry from point-blank range!

Moments later Igor Budan just failed to get his head to an Andrea Gasbarroni cross that flashed across the face of goal.

Inter finally went close on 22 minutes as Cesar combined with Julio Cruz, but Il Jardinero was a little too late for the tap-in. Cesar should have done better when horribly scuffing over from a loose ball and Douglas Maicon volleyed over when exchanging passes with Patrick Vieira.

Cruz nodded a corner kick off target, but went a lot closer when calling Pavarini into a save from half a yard after Mario Balotelli's assist!

Zlatan Ibrahimovic made his comeback after six weeks out of action and in his first minute he ran past Parma players only to blast well wide. Inter were fielding a trident attack now and this left gaps at the back, so Marco Materazzi was fortunate to escape with a clumsy tackle on Parravicini.

It was Ibrahimovic who marked his comeback with the opening goal to hand Inter the Scudetto. He dribbled past one player and unleashed a precise right-foot daisy-cutter that slotted into the corner by taking a coat of paint off the inside of the upright.

Cristiano Lucarelli was introduced, but Pavarini fingertipped Balotelli's effort round the post and Ibrahimovic nodded a Balotelli free kick over. Lucarelli just failed to make contact with Reginaldo's cross for a diving header.

There were penalty appeals for Parma when Materazzi clashed with Ferdinand Coly, but contact was minimal. Lucarelli also had a shout, though he seemed to seek contact with Julio Cesar following a defensive howler.

Ibrahimovic could've put the title under lock and key on the counter inspured by Pele, but in a one-on-one fired straight at Pavarini. The move continued and this time Ibra volleyed in at the back post to make it 2-0!
