Serie A Week 37 - 11/5/08 (14.00 UK)
Livorno 0 - 1 Torino
Rosina 41 (T)
Stadio Picchi

Alessandro Rosina's goal confirmed Torino's Serie A status, but mathematically sent Livorno down.

It was the Last Chance Saloon for Livorno and the crossroads for Toro, as a win would all but confirm the visitors' place in Serie A. The Amaranto had lost four of their last five matches, including the fiery 3-2 defeat at Atalanta that sparked a post-match brawl with bans for Alessandro Grandoni [five matches], Emanuele Filippini [three], Giovanni Pasquale [two], David Balleri [one], Antonio Filippini [one] and Simone Pavan.

Of the previous 13 Serie A editions, the last Livorno win was in March 1934 plus seven draws and four away victories.

David Di Michele had the first effort saved by Marco Amelia at the near post on Alessandro Rosina's assist, while Melara's header drifted wide from a corner.

To make matters worse for the decimated Amaranto, Nico Pulzetti went off with a shoulder injury.

Livorno's defensive errors have been the key to their disastrous season and this game was no different. Before the break a series of dreadful howlers, above all from substitute Sidny, allowed Rosina to tap in Di Michele's deflected assist from a yard totally unmarked.

Marco Amelia prevented a second goal in first half stoppages, as Di Michele and Rosina combined again.

Francesco Tavano came on for the second half and hit the back of the net, but he was flagged offside on Alessandro Diamanti's parried strike. Massimo Loviso's rocket also flashed wide.

Livorno fans, realising they were about to be relegated, staged a protest and threw a series of smoke bombs and objects into the Torino end. Play was halted for several minutes, but then resumed.
