Marco Di Vaio earned 10-man Genoa a precious point at the Stadio Picchi.
The Rossoblu had won four of their last five games, but Livorno lost their way as a nine-match unbeaten run was followed by back-to-back defeats against Juventus and Palermo. Julio Cesar Leon and Gaetano De Rosa were sidelined, but Rubinho and Omar Milanetto returned from bans. The home side lost Jose Luis Vidigal to suspension along with the injured Martin Bergvold and Giuliano Giannichedda.
This tie hadnt been seen in the top flight since a 2-2 draw on September 26, 1948, and the last Genoa victory stretched back another decade.
Francesco Tavano duetted with Spaniard Diego Tristan to bring a tough save out of Rubinho, as the two are starting to forge a real partnership.
Tavano netted his 10th Serie A goal of the season. Tristan flicked on a pass first-time to send Tavano clear and the former Roma man hit an angled drive on the bounce to beat Rubinho.
Genoa were anaemic in attack and introduced Marco Di Vaio for defender Cesare Bovo just 28 minutes in.
Alessandro Grandoni performed a crucial tackle on Marco Borriello and Marco Amelia parried a volley from Genoa's top scorer. Tavano had a couple of efforts off target.
The second half started with a delay, as Juric bizarrely had walked on to the field wearing teammate Danilo's jersey.
Di Vaio drilled wide and Santos needed a solid defensive intervention to deny Tavano. However, the defender saw red for a second bookable offence on 75 minutes.
Despite being a man down, Genoa actually poured forward in the final stages and equalised with a bit of luck, as Di Vaio's shot on the bounce took a massive deflection off Dario Knezevic to leave Amelia stranded.
