Serie A Week 33 - 13/4/08 (14.00 UK)
Genoa 3 - 0 Torino
Di Vaio 52 (G), Borriello 61 (G), Sculli 69 (G)
Stadio Ferraris

Genoa scored three goals in 17 minutes to sink a desperately disappointing Torino.

The Granata had a lot more at stake going into this game, as they were just five points clear of the drop zone. Roberto Stellone was suspended along with the injured Matteo Sereni, Matteo Paro, Santos, Danilo and Juric, while Genoa boss Gian Piero Gasperini sat out a touchline ban.

Cesare Bovo's free kick was charged down by the defensive wall, but his penalty appeals for a handling offence were waved away. Marco Borriello was sent through by Julio Cesar Leon and was shrugged off the ball by Hernan Dellafiore, but again penalty appeals were ignored.

Genoa were controlling the game and Toro relied on the counter, with Marco Motta firing over the bar. Alvaro Recoba was booked for dissent and will be suspended for the reunion with Inter.

On 35 minutes Borriello turned in the box and his shot was crucially charged down by Dellafiore. Moments later he went on a slalom through the Genoa defence and flashed the finish across the face of goal with the outside of his left foot.

Borriello turned provider with a chipped cross for Marco Rossi's volley at the back post that bounced just wide.

Substitute Marco Di Vaio opened the scoring seven minutes after stepping on to the field, running on to a Borriello assist to waltz round the goalkeeper and deposit into an empty net.

Rubinho had to rush out after Nicola Ventola pounced on Alessandro Lucarelli's error.

But Borriello scored his 19th Serie A goal of the season with a classic counter-attack. Leon's cross was touched on by a defender, but Borriello controlled and drilled an angled drive into the far corner.

Toro livened up with Alessandro Rosina coming off the bench and Ventola's strike cannoned off the crossbar.

It was too late, though, as Giuseppe Sculli made it 3-0 with a totally free header on Omar Milanetto's set piece. The Toro defence was utterly static and left goalkeeper Alberto Maria Fontana on his own.

Domenico Criscito so nearly made it 4-0 with a header over the bar, then Fontana fingertipped a Leon screamer on to the crossbar.
