Serie A Week 31 - 30/3/08 (14.00 UK)
Genoa 2 - 0 Reggina
Borriello 59 (G), Rossi 92 (G)
Stadio Ferraris

Marco Borriello continued his remarkable run at the top of the Capocannoniere charts and plunged Reggina closer to relegation.

The Rossoblu may have been promoted in the summer, but they were in eighth place and welcomed a Reggina side in the bottom two. The Calabrians got their first win of the season against Genoa back in Week 12. Matteo Paro, Cesare Bovo and Domenico Criscito were injured and Giuseppe Sculli suspended.

Alessio Scarpi, Gaetano De Rosa, Alessandro Lucarelli, Marco Borriello and Julio Cesar Leon were all ex-Reggina and Andrea Campagnolo, Francesco Cozza and Stephen Makinwa former Genoa.

Emanuele Cascione had a great chance for the visitors after 120 seconds, his deflected effort bringing a very difficult save out of the returning Rubinho.

Marco Di Vaio thought he had given Genoa the lead on 19 minutes when his delicate lob went over the goalkeeper, but Tognozzi was ready for an acrobatic and decisive goalline clearance.

Makinwa went very close for the Amaranto, as he ran on to a Nicola Amoruso through ball to go round Rubinho, but the angle was too narrow to get his lob on target.

Di Vaio wasted from a promising position with a scuffed finish, while Rubinho needed two touches to control a Barreto snapshot with Makinwa hovering.

Giuseppe Sculli missed a golden opportunity moments later, his header flashing all the way across the face of goal to scrape a coat of paint off the far post.

It was a very open game and Cascione fired over from an intercepted Makinwa assist, Marco Borriello's header looped over and Rubinho blocked a Franco Brienza strike.

Former Reggina striker Borriello broke the deadlock in this thoroughly entertaining game. Campagnolo only parried a long-range Rossi strike into the path of the Serie A Capocannoniere.

Di Vaio curled a Julio Cesar Leon assist round the upright from distance and Brienza flicked on an Amoruso cross from six yards for a fine reaction save from Rubinho from point-blank range.

Lucho Figueroa flashed an angled drive across the face of goal and in stoppages Rossi made the points safe with a cracking strike from the D with the outside of his right foot. It was a fine way to mark his 100th Serie A appearance.
