Serie A Week 25 - 27/2/08 (19.30 UK)
Fiorentina 1 - 0 Livorno
Papa Waigo 59 (F)
Stadio Franchi

Ndyaie Papa Waigo's debut Serie A goal proved enough to win the Tuscan derby and restore Fiorentina in fourth place after Milan's hiccup in Catania.

The Viola's chase for a Champions League place took a turn for the worse in recent weeks, as Milan caught them in fourth at the weekend and Adrian Mutu was ruled out for a month with a sprained knee. The Tuscan derby was just the right occasion to rile them up again, especially as Livorno were without a win in five. Christian Vieri sat out a ban and the Amaranto hadn't won this Serie A fixture since 1937.

Kuzmanovic tried to earn a penalty with an embarrassing dive over Dario Knezevic's leg and was quite rightly booked. Giampaolo Pazzini's low drive was wide of the upright, then Giovanni Pasquale's intervention proved decisive to prevent Franco Semioli from tapping in Manuel Pasqual's cross from the left.

It was all Viola in the opening stages and Tomas Ujfalusi had a chance go awry when it fell on his weaker foot, but Livorno had their first opportunity just before half-time as Sebastien Frey palmed an Erjon Bogdani header out of the top corner.

Fiorentina were furious when Semioli was stretchered off with a sprained ankle promoted by Pasquale's crunching tackle. The Livorno midfielder also got injured in that move and eventually made way for David Balleri.

There was more bad news, as Pazzini was booked and will be suspended for the clash with Juventus.

Bogdani really should have given Livorno the lead on 56 minutes, but incredibly nodded Nico Pulzetti's cross well wide from six yards.

It proved a costly error, as moments later Ndiaye Papa Waigo scored his first Serie A goal with a diving header from a corner kick.

Daniel Pablo Osvaldo tested Marco Amelia from the tightest of angles, then the goalkeeper did brilliantly to parry a Kuzmanovic drive from point-blank range.

Pazzini should have made it 2-0 in stoppages, but incredibly hesitated and hit the bar from six yards.
