Serie A Week 36 - 4/5/08 (14.00 UK)
Catania 1 - 2 Reggina
Amoruso 41, pen 90 (R), Martinez 93 (C)
Stadio Massimino

Nicola Amoruso's brace gave Reggina a shock victory in Sicily that could prove decisive in the relegation battle.

It was another crunch relegation six-pointer for Reggina, but without a single away victory all term and against a Catania side solid at the Massimino, it was a tough ask. Gionatha Spinesi and Valdez were struggling with fitness worries, but other than them both tacticians had a full squad to choose from.

Andrea Campagnolo pushed a Giuseppe Mascara free kick over the bar, then the goalkeeper rushed out to close down Mascara in the box. The Catania striker went to ground, but replays on possible contact remain unclear.

However, it was Reggina who scored with their first real opportunity on 41 minutes. Ciccio Cozza's cross found Nicola Amoruso unmarked for a diving header at the far post.

Amoruso nearly had a second when he dived on to a loose ball from two defenders colliding, but couldn't make enough contact at full stretch.

After the restart Campagnolo flapped a Gennaro Sardo cross-shot over, then Mascara failed to make contact on a Colucci assist.

Juan Manuel Vargas found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper after springing the offside trap, but Campagnolo did well to come charging out and clear on the edge of the box.

Mascara and Morimoto had volleys charged down, while Campagnolo parried an acrobatic attempt from the Italian striker.

However, Reggina could've made it 2-0 with Amoruso's lob flapped out from under the bar by Ciro Polito.

They finally did in the last minute when Amoruso coolly converted a precise penalty after Sardo brought down Edgar Barreto.

Catania kept it open until the final whistle as in stoppages Martinez tapped in from a couple of yards after a series of deflections and ricochets.
