Bottom of the table Cagliari's hopes of staying up are still alive after this crushing victory over a dismal Torino.
A result here would all but secure Toro's top flight status and send Cagliari down, as time was running out for the Sardinians. Yet the Granata had just one win on their travels and were without Paolo Zanetti, Alvaro Recoba, Vincenzo Grella and Marco Pisano. Surprisigly, Torino hero Alessandro Rosina was left on the bench.
Jeda opened the scoring for Cagliari just 11 minutes in. Robert Acquafresca held up a goal kick to send the Brazilian clear for a strong finish from just inside the box.
David Di Michele tried to fight back and fired wide and the referee pointed to the spot for a Parola handling offence as he tried to anticipate Nikola Lazetic. However, Di Michele's penalty was denied by a one-handed Marco Storari save.
The referee awarded a second - very controversial - penalty less than a minute later at the other end of the field for what did not appear to be Simone Barone handling offence. This time Acquafresca converted powerfully to send Matteo Sereni the wrong way, but Barone did not make contact with his arm.
Toro were in trouble and Walter Novellino bowed to pressure by throwing on Rosina for the dismal Lazetic in a tactical substitution just 28 minutes in.
Acquafresca nodded an Agostini cross at the goalkeeper, but got his goal on 57 minutes with a splendid rising right-foot effort from the edge of the area that swept past Sereni's fingertips at the near post.
