Serie A Week 19 - 13/1/07 (19.30 UK)
Torino 1 - 3 Inter
Adriano 24 (I), Fiore 59 (T), Ibrahimovic 60 (I), Materazzi pen 84 (I)
Stadio Olimpico (25,000)

Adriano scored his third goal in as many games as Inter beat Torino 3-1 to set a new all-time record of 12 consecutive Serie A wins.

The Nerazzurri were chasing an all-time new Serie A record of 12 consecutive victories, but came face to face with their former Coach Alberto Zaccheroni. Adriano was back to his best after breaking his nine-month goal drought, while Toro were without the suspended Simone Barone and Gianluca Comotto.

Patrick Vieira had to intercept Ardito in the penalty area during a dangerous move, while Nikola Lazetic tried to dribble through the entire Inter defence and was eventually cut off by Marco Materazzi.

Christian Abbiati smothered a fine Adriano free kick towards the top corner, but it was only a warning sign.

On 24 minutes Maicon's floating cross went over Marco Di Loreto for a precise Adriano free header from seven yards into the far bottom corner. For a man who failed to net in any club competition for nine months, it's all the more remarkable that this is his third goal in as many games between Serie A and the Coppa Italia.

Another Adriano header from Vieira's assist was well held moments later, though Julio Cesar captured a long-range Diego De Ascentis effort.

Roberto Stellone flicked on an Alessandro Rosina free kick with his heel, but couldn't get it on target, then Giuseppe Pancaro ballooned well over from a promising position.

Vieira was booked for a scuffle with Gabriele Cioffi when the Toro defender was trying to apologise for a tough challenge, but he showed the best side of his game with a fierce volley that stung Abbiati's palms.

It should really have been 2-0 before the break, as Zlatan Ibrahimovic sprinted down the right flank and cut back for Adriano, who somehow fired wide from six yards.

Zaccheroni threw on Stefano Fiore for Lazetic in the second half, a rare appearance for the midfielder who is said to be an Inter transfer target. Toro were livelier and Rosina's curling cross flashed past both Stellone and Nicolas Andre Burdisso.

As always, Inter were dangerous from set plays and Burdisso's header from a corner kick was just over.

Torino drew level in curious circumstances. They were peppering the penalty area with crosses when Fiore fired from the edge of the area and it took a decisive deflection off Materazzi's leg to leave Julio Cesar stranded.

However, the Granata were still celebrating when 30 seconds later Ibrahimovic restored Inter's lead with a spectacular strike. He let the ball bounce over his shoulder and unleashed a fantastic right-foot half-volley from an acute angle into the far corner.

The game was now on fire with end to end moves, and within the next couple of minutes Stellone's swerving header was well held by Julio Cesar. Adriano should've put the game beyond doubt on 68 minutes when he sprung the offside trap and was clear on goal, but his angled drive was too close to the goalkeeper and Abbiati stuck out a foot to intercept.

Rosina ran at the Inter defence and dribbled past three before he was brought down by Javier Zanetti. Toro were pouring forward and introduced striker Elvis Abbruscato for the bitterly disappointing Pancaro, who was repeatedly jeered by the fans.

Once again Adriano sprung the offside trap, but this time Abbiati missed the ball and clattered into the Brazilian's legs. The penalty and red card for interrupting a clear scoring opportunity were inevitable, so Massimo Taibi went in goal. Marco Materazzi stepped up and, although Taibi got a hand to it, he converted to secure a record-breaking Serie A victory.

Adriano picked up a knock in that move and limped off as a precautionary measure.
