| Roma - and Vincenzo Montella - are back on track, but it's crisis time for Parma. The Giallorossi were hoping to bounce back from their midweek home defeat to Scudetto challengers Inter, but made this trip without the injured Rodrigo Taddei and Amantino Mancini, so Vincenzo Montella made his first start of the season. Ex-Gialloblu defender Matteo Ferrari returned to the Tardini.
Parma boss Stefano Pioli was still looking for his first Serie A victory with just one point to his name so far and was missing Massimo Paci, sitting out a two-match ban for having simulated an elbow from Luca Toni, and the injured Andrea Gasbarroni and Zlatan Muslimovic.
L'Aeroplanino missed most of last season with a serious back injury, but took just five minutes to prove he's back to his best. The striker controlled a long ball forward between two defenders and prodded it past Alfonso De Lucia with the outside of his left foot.
Parma fought back with Igor Budan's header over the bar, but Roma had plenty of space to run into and Simone Perrotta combined with Francesco Totti for an angled drive well saved.
Budan was the lone striker for the home side and threatened with a snapshot that flashed across the face of goal, skimming the far post. Andrea Pisanu's effort from the edge of the box was held by Alexander Doni.
Montella floated in a cross for Totti's spectacular volley, but the right-foot strike was too high.
Roma doubled their lead in first half stoppages. Daniele De Rossi won back the ball in midfield and sparked a counter-attack, threading through for Perrotta, who nutmegged the goalkeeper with a cool finish.
Coach Pioli made two attacking substitutions at the break, introducing Cigarini and Paponi. Yet the Giallorossi remained the most potent threat, Montella rolling across for Alberto Aquilani's strike, palmed out by De Lucia.
Roma made the result safe with Aleandro Rosi's first Serie A goal. Totti flicked back a cross from the by-line, Montella's overhead kick was wayward, but set up the 19-year-old's volley at the back post.
Montella shrugged off Ferdinand Coly down the left flank and rolled in for Aquilani, but De Lucia performed an incredible point-blank save.
Deep into stoppages the Giallorossi rounded out the 4-0 scoreline with Ricardo Faty threading through for Aquilani's angled drive.
