| Palermo fell eight points behind leaders Inter and four adrift of second-placed Roma with this Tardini stalemate. The Rosanero have certainly plunged into crisis over the past fortnight with four consecutive defeats in all competition, while Parma had lost their last three in Serie A. Mark Bresciano and Fabio Simplicio faced their former fans at the Tardini, while David Di Michele returned from two weeks out with a thigh strain, but Aimo Diana and Pisano were out. Domenico Morfeo, Giuseppe Cardone, Massimo Paci and the suspended Vincenzo Grella were sidelined for the home team.
Parma had the first chance after eight minutes. Former Palermo starlet Andrea Gasbarroni prodded the ball into the path of Zlatan Muslimovic with the outside of his right foot and Alberto Fontana performed a good fingertip save. Gasbarroni was running rings around Dellafiore and his cross was ballooned over by Andrea Dessena. Bresciano's first touch let him down from six yards, allowing Damiano Ferronetti to recover, while Luca Bucci smothered a Di Michele effort. The Gialloblu had penalty appeals for a clumsy Andrea Barzagli challenge on Maurizio Ciaramitaro and Gasbarroni drilled a snapshot just wide. Palermo came out fighting for the second half and within 60 seconds created their best chance of the game so far. Luca Bucci spilled a Mattia Cassani cross into the path of Amauri, but the Brazilian couldn't quite knock the loose ball into the net. Bucci flew to parry Amauri's glancing header from an Eugenio Corini free kick. Moments later at the other end Fernando Couto's goal was disallowed for an offside position. Fontana was at full stretch to fingertip Andrea Pisanu's angled drive round the far post, while Ciaramitaro's header was parried at the other end. Veteran Parma goalkeeper Bucci bravely flew to palm Andrea Caracciolo's free kick out of the top corner, clattering into the upright as he did so. |
