Serie A Week 19 - 14/1/07 (14.00 UK)
Milan 3 - 1 Reggina
Pirlo 6 (M), Seedorf 35 (M), Bianchi 66 (R), Gilardino 78 (M)
Stadio Meazza (43,996)

Milan are back with a bang, as they kicked off their 2007 with a victory, although Reggina had the chances to cause an upset.

The Rossoneri's winter break seems to have done the trick and they hoped to kick-start their march on the Champions League places, while Reggina were also fighting back from a Calciopoli penalty and had picked up one point from their previous six Serie A visits to San Siro. The banned Gennaro Gattuso joined Kaka, Alessandro Nesta, Dida and Serginho on the sidelines, but Paolo Maldini and Giuseppe Favalli returned.

Andrea Pirlo was facing the club where he essentially kick-started his career and he opened the scoring with one of his trademark set-pieces. He curled into the top corner with his right foot, leaving Ivan Pelizzoli with no chance, for his first Serie A goal of the season.

Giovanni Tedesco drilled wide from distance for the Amaranto, but they had an incredible chance to draw level on 24 minutes. Zeljko Kalac was left completely confused by a corner kick and flapped Alessandro Lucarelli's header back into the six yard box. Giandomenico Mesto was first to react, but was unlucky to see his finish come off the inside of the upright.

Milan rode their luck and, after a good Pippo Inzaghi header, doubled their lead. Clarence Seedorf in Kaka's usual Trequartista role exchanged passes with Marek Jankulovski to sidefoot home from eight yards.

Pelizzoli prevented Seedorf completing his brace and Reggina should've found a way back into the game in the second half when Tedesco threaded through for Rolando Bianchi, but the totally unmarked striker ballooned wide of the far post from close range.

He made up for it later, as Bianchi unleashed a missile from over 20 metres that slotted inbetween Kalac and the near post for a great goal.

The Amaranto certainly didn't give up and Bianchi's diving header was off target, then moments later Kalac had to perform a stunning save on Tedesco's strike after the goalkeeper's own error in the clearance.

However, just as Reggina were pouring forward, they left space at the back for Milan to get a third. Yoann Gourcuff rolled across for Alberto Gilardino, who lifted the ball over Pelizzoli from a tough angle with his left foot.

The Calabrians kept going and youngster Nielsen came sliding in to balloon Tedesco's low cross well over from eight yards.
