Inter ended their season with a new record of 97 points in a single Serie A campaign - beating the previous best set by Il Grande Torino.
The San Siro was one big party as the Nerazzurri were presented with the Scudetto trophy and Torino celebrated their top flight status. Luis Figo also waved goodbye after confirming his move to the Middle East to see out his career. President Massimo Moratti sat on the bench next to Coach Roberto Mancini.
After 12 minutes Mariano Gonzalez fell over Massimo Taibi and although there seemed to be no contact, the referee pointed to the spot. Marco Materazzi buried the penalty to give Inter the lead.
Alessandro Rosina curled one of his trademark free kicks wide, but Gonzalez skipped past three players and the goalkeeper before narrowing the angle too much and allowing Gianluca Comotto to close him down.
Figo's trademark solo run was deflected out for a corner and in the second half another Rosina free kick gave Toldo a scare.
Douglas Maicon made it 2-0 with a wonderful solo effort. The Brazilian skipped past three defenders as he made his way towards the centre to unleash a powerful finish towards the far post.
Gonzalez earned another penalty from Brevi's late challenge, so Figo stepped up to convert for his second goal of the season.
After the final whistle, Inter were presented with the Scudetto trophy.
