Serie A Week 24 - 17/2/07 (14.00 UK)
Inter 1 - 0 Cagliari
Burdisso 11 (I)
Stadio Meazza (35,835)

Nicolas Andre Burdisso's header from an inspired Zlatan Ibrahimovic cross made Inter the most successful European League side of all time with 16 consecutive victories.

The all-time European record for 15 consecutive League wins belonged to Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, but the Nerazzurri are seemingly unstoppable at the moment. Only season ticket holders were allowed in to the San Siro while it undergoes renovation work.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic returned to the side after a head injury, but Roberto Mancini made several changes ahead of the Champions League clash with Valencia, leaving birthday boy Adriano on the bench. Cagliari were without Mauro Esposito, Antonio Chimenti, Diego Lopez and Antonino D'Agostino and had lost their last four trips to San Siro on the trot, not picking up a result since the 2-2 draw in November 1996.

Surprisingly, it was Cagliari who really should have taken the lead after five minutes. David Suazo went on one of his trademark counter-attacks and threaded through for the totally unmarked Andrea Capone, but the youngster hesitated and aimed a weak effort straight at Julio Cesar.

Inter opened the scoring with a marvellously well-worked goal. Luis Figo and Dejan Stankovic combined down the right flank until Ibrahimovic flicked an inspired first-time cross into the centre for Nicolas Andre Burdisso's header.

Suazo was a constant danger, though, and his solo effort with long-range missile stung Julio Cesar's palms.

Marco Fortin parried a Hernan Crespo strike, while after the break an Ibrahimovic volley into the ground went wide. Suazo was a thorn in Inter's side with his blistering pace, earning repeated free kicks, while Adriano came on to celebrate his 25th birthday.

Inter went close with Stankovic as some fine footwork and a fierce drive cannoned off the crossbar, but Suazo's change of pace left Walter Samuel eating dust and substitute Simone Pepe volleyed over from six yards.

Olivier Dacourt was fortunate not to be sent off for a crunching tackle on Suazo, as he was already on a yellow card. He was substituted by Santiago Solari and the Argentine's left-foot half-volley brought a tough save out of Fortin at the near post.

At the other end Cagliari weren't out of it yet and Marchini's long-range effort was deflected off target, but it ends with another Inter victory.
