| Sampdoria ended this poor season on a particularly humiliating note, thrashed 3-1 on home turf by the doomed Lecce. The Blucerchiati at least hoped to end the season with a win for the home fans after a disappointing campaign overall, while Lecce bowed out of Serie A. Walter Novellino's men were without a victory in 12 rounds and the injury crisis continued with Aimo Diana, Fabio Bazzani, Emiliano Bonazzoli, Corrado Colombo, Giulio Falcone, Andrea Gasbarroni and Mark Iuliano sidelined.
Palombo's long-range strike was just wide, while Castellazzi pushed a Del Vecchio effort round the post.
Samp really should've taken the lead on 20 minutes when Francesco Flachi dribbled past both Lorenzo Stovini and then goalkeeper Francesco Benussi, but he narrowed the angle and struck the side-netting of an open goal.
It was Lecce who eventually broke through when Mirko Vucinic's shot was parried into the path of Gennaro Del Vecchio.
Castellini nodded over the bar and drilled wide from 20 metres, though Lecce maintained much of the possession in the first half.
Substitute Sam Dalla Bona volleyed over the bar, but already relegated Lecce took a shock 2-0 lead at Marassi. The Sampdoria defence was static as Cichero waltzed down the left flank and cut in for the unmarked Axel Konan.
Benussi parried a Flachi free kick and a header from the veteran striker, but once again the Salentini got the goals.
Konan was allowed a totally free header despite being surrounded by four Sampdoria players to make it 3-0 for the visitors.
Flachi restored some tiny element of pride when he fired in a fine strike from distance.
