Serie A Week 8 - 23/10/05 (14.00 UK)
Livorno 1 - 0 Reggina
C Lucarelli 88 (L)
Stadio Picchi

Cristiano Lucarelli's last-gasp goal gave 10-man Livorno a deserved victory over his brother's Reggina.

This was an emotional moment for the Lucarelli brothers, who faced off on opposite sides of the divide. Alessandro left Livorno a few weeks into the season after a bitter row with president Aldo Spinelli, but has never disguised how much he loves his hometown club. Cristiano Lucarelli returned from suspension and hoped to wash away last week's 5-0 drubbing at Inter. Walter Mazzarri also returned to the Stadio Picchi as an opponent after taking Livorno to promotion two seasons ago.

Cristiano Lucarelli went close early on when his glancing header from a corner kick shaved the far post.

Livorno have had a player sent off for the last three games running, as Stefano Morrone saw a straight red for a reaction foul. Giacomo Tedesco had been brought down and Morrone let out a little kick. It wasn't going to cause injury, but it was the intention that was punished.

Nontheless, the home side still had the best chances and Pavarini performed a point-blank save on Cristiano Lucarelli's volley at the back post.

Reggina finally had a good chance on the stroke of half-time with Modesto's half-volley whistling wide of the far post.

After the break, another C Lucarelli header was just off target and there were some intriguing battles between the two brothers, as Alessandro was marking his older sibling.

Marco Amelia had to perform a very tricky one-handed save on Francesco Cozza's free kick, which dipped mercilessly after curling over the wall.

Substitute Nicola Amoruso thought he had given Reggina the lead on 65 minutes when he turned in Giandomenico Mesto's cross from close range, but the goal was disallowed for a tight offside decision.

Cristiano Lucarelli had penalty appeals waved away for Lanzaro's challenge, raising the temperature in an already tense Stadio Picchi. Reggina also ended the game in 10 men for Mesto's second bookable offence.

Despite playing with a man down for most of the match, Livorno snatched a late - and deserved - winner two minutes from time. Cristiano Lucarelli held off two challenges and drilled in an angled drive.
