Serie A Week 8 - 22/10/05 (19.30 UK)
Fiorentina 4 - 1 Parma
Toni 2, 24, 60 (F), Fiore 37 (F), Grella 66 (P)
Stadio Franchi

Luca Toni's hat-trick ensured Cesare Prandelli's reunion with his old club was an unhappy one for Parma.

This was a very special game for Prandelli and Sebastien Frey, who came face to face with their former club Parma. In Frey's case, it could be his future as well, because the goalkeeper is only on loan at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

The Gialloblu had to do without the suspended Domenico Morfeo, while Daniele Bonera, Jorge Bolano and Paolo Cannavaro were injured. Valeri Bojinov was given the nod to partner Luca Toni for the Viola.

Parma got off to a great start and within the opening minute had brought a tough save out of Frey with Giovanni Pasquale's rising strike from a Mark Bresciano assist.

However, 30 seconds after that, Fiorentina broke the deadlock with their hitman Toni. Luca Bucci hesitated on a Martin Jorgensen cross and Toni got in front of his marker at the near post to nod in.

Bucci took two attempts to smother Toni's angled drive, then there was bad news for Bernardo Corradi, who had to spend several minutes on the sidelines receiving treatment for a head wound he suffered during a clash of heads with Dario Dainelli.

Matteo Contini gathered a corner kick from the edge of the box and drilled over, but Parma's dreadful defensive error handed Toni a second on 24 minutes. Fernando Couto's terribly weak backpass was intercepted by the former Palermo striker, who waltzed round Bucci and deposited into an empty net.

The Gialloblu fought back and Frey punched away Bresciano's powerful effort.

It wasn't enough and former Parma alumni Stefano Fiore made it 3-0 with a fantastic long-range goal. The midfielder unleashed a rocket with his weaker left foot that slotted into the top corner of the net.

Toni also required treatment on the stroke of half-time after a clash with Fernando Couto left him with a bloody nose. Bresciano's snapshot was off target, as Parma struggled to find a way back into this game.

After the break, the visitors had another good chance with Bresciano charged down by Frey and Giuseppe Pancaro as he tried to make the most of Marco Marchionni's build-up play.

Marco Donadel went very close for the Viola with a fine trap and volley that skimmed the near post. It was only a warning, as soon after Toni completed his hat-trick to make it 4-0. Fiore's pass allowed him to spring the offside trap and Toni chipped the goalkeeper, although Bucci was again hesitant in this situation.

Parma at least got a consolation goal - and ensured Fiorentina haven't kept a single Serie A clean sheet this season, when Vincenzo Grella's shot from a corner kick took a deflection on its way through a sea of legs.

Nonetheless, Pancaro should've made it five, his diving free header somehow over the bar from six yards.

Marchionni was booked for simulation when he fell under a challenge from Manuel Pasqual and replays show there was no contact whatsoever. Australian international Grella nearly grabbed a second with a half-volley from the edge of the box that skimmed the woodwork.

Fiorentina also went close, Pasqual's free kick shaving the upright, then Toni's curling finish was just wide of the far post with Bucci again off his line.
