Obinna in Samp's sights
Wednesday 8 October, 2008

Peripheral Inter striker Victor Obinna could be on his way to Sampdoria in the January transfer window.

The Nigerian prodigy impressed during three years at Chievo and finally completed his dream switch to co-owners Inter this summer.

However, with such a host of strikers at Jose Mourinho's disposal, Obinna was believed to be surplus to requirements.

Inter tried to send the 21-year-old to Everton on loan, but he failed to get a work permit and was left stranded at San Siro.

While Obinna will remain with the Nerazzurri until the New Year and was handed a chance as a substitute against Bologna last weekend, his future may still be away from Milan.

Sampdoria considered a summer swoop for the powerhouse but attempts to sign Hernan Crespo and Luis Jimenez got in the way.

“He is certainly a player we are interested in,” Doria sporting director Beppe Marotta admitted.

“Inter offered some possible solutions in the summer, but for various reasons negotiations didn't progress.”

Samp have had a miserable start to the season and Antonio Cassano has called for reinforcements - Obinna could be one of the new recruits at the start of 2009.
