Juventus general manager Jean-Claude Blanc assures the club has “total faith in Claudio Ranieri. We will not change.”
The Coach has been under fire from fans, the media and reportedly a number of the veteran players after draws with Catania, Sampdoria and BATE Borisov.
This Sunday’s 2-1 home defeat to Palermo was for many the final straw and the Bianconeri officials have been coming out to do some damage control on the tactician.
“We will not change our Coach, as we have total faith in Ranieri, just as President Cobolli Gigli said on Sunday,” Blanc told Sky Italia.
“I confirm that 100 per cent. Ranieri was chosen to lead a long-term project and that will continue. We’ll sit down with him, his staff and the medics to analyse the situation and try to find extra small tweaks that must get Juventus back to the side we saw at the end of August.
“Ranieri has a contract for another year and we are making long-term considerations.”
The Bianconeri were all ready to challenge for the Scudetto and Champions League at the end of August, when they blew Artmedia Bratislava away 4-0 in the first leg of the European preliminary round.
However, since then they have averaged around a goal per game and struggled to shine against smaller clubs.
“There is no point denying we are in a difficult moment in terms of both performance and results,” continued the general manager.
“It is important to take a long, hard look at the situation. Fortunately we have this break for international duty to examine certain aspects before the Napoli game.
“It is a difficult moment, but we have the desire to face up to it with professionalism and an eye for the smallest details, as these are the ones that make the difference. We have to return with a winning style of play.”
The main problem in the locker room is reportedly a split between the ‘old guard’ and Coach Ranieri, which Alessandro Del Piero was not entirely convincing in denying this week.
“The team is united because it is experienced,” claimed Blanc. “Everyone knows, from the old guard to the youngsters, that in this moment only a united squad can allow us to get out of this situation.”
The lack of goals has seen fans and media complain at the transfer policy, which saw Christian Poulsen signed rather than a midfield playmaker.
“We do not regret buying Poulsen. We considered his signature very carefully and I am sure in the next few games Poulsen will prove and continue to prove he has the qualities we need in our midfield.
“Amauri was one of the most important summer signings, but having said that, every transfer window is an opportunity to increase the quality of the squad. We showed that last season by bringing in Momo Sissoko.
“If there are opportunities and shared choices to improve, then we leave the door open to move on the market.”
