Livorno turn to Camolese
Wednesday 10 October, 2007

Young tactician Giancarlo Camolese has been confirmed as the new Coach of bottom side Livorno.

The Tuscans have endured a miserable start and are propping up the table without a win, prompting President Aldo Spinelli to axe Fernando Orsi yesterday.

Camolese had hinted that he was ready to take the job and it has now been confirmed that the 46-year-old has signed until 2009.

“The decision to hire Camolese was taken due to a number of factors,” Spinelli explained.

“He is a young Coach with big ambitions and his Torino heart can become an Amaranto heart. He has very clear ideas on how we should prepare and play.

“The players have greeted the choice warmly and director general Elio Signorelli and team manager Silvano Bini spoke to Camolese for hours yesterday and were very positive.”

Camolese is a risky appointment due to his lack of top-flight experience, but he did lead Reggina to survival in 2003-04, prior to the arrival of Walter Mazzarri.

“I think we have made the right choice in a Coach for the future who can repeat what he achieved at Reggina and set his career in motion.

“I’m sorry that we had to sack Orsi, but football is impatient. Now we must look forward with confidence. This is my strongest Livorno side since we climbed into Serie A,” Spinelli concluded.
