Beretta still backs Milan
Sunday 9 November, 2008

Mario Beretta is proud that his Lecce managed to muzzle Milan in the final seconds, but maintains they are still the strongest side.

“Clearly it was a struggle, which is only to be expected against a team of champions like Milan. We did what we could, but they found ways around us constantly,” he said after the 1-1 draw.

“Having said that, we conceded when Milan had been losing their sharpness and releasing the pressure. It's a shame that the ball went over Antunes to reach [Alexandre] Pato and he set up the goal for Ronaldinho.

“We were able to soak up pressure at the right moment and reacted very well after going behind. We were practically playing with 10 men as [Daniele] Cacia was hurt, but still managed to snatch a draw.”

Lecce barely had a chance before Esposito's header from an Andrea Zanchetta free kick deep into stoppages.

“We had a good start, though Milan deserve credit for stopping our counter-attacks.”

This result means Inter have regained the Serie A leadership after leapfrogging the Rossoneri.

“Right now I think Milan are the stronger side compared to Inter,” insisted Beretta.
