Zamparini blasts sluggish Palermo
Sunday 9 November, 2008

The honeymoon is over at Palermo, as Maurizio Zamparini lambasted his squad after the 1-0 defeat at Torino.

“I am very worried, not just for this loss, but above all the average performance of the team over the past five games,” the President told Stadio News.

Zamparini is famously very demanding and fired Coach Stefano Colantuono early on to bring in Davide Ballardini.

The new boss had done brilliantly, even winning away to Juventus, but recent results have seen the honeymoon period come crashing to a halt.

“An average of four points from five games is worthy of a side about to get relegated. I am seriously worried here and am afraid we'll be sucked back into the danger zone.

“This is a message I want to send to the team and the Coach. We played against a side below our standards and cannot play like this.”

Palermo only lost at the 88th minute to a Jurgen Saumel strike after Antonio Nocerino had been sent off.

“This squad has no ideas and no bite, we cannot continue like this. The defeat was deserved and it seems to me that nothing at all has changed.

“Ballardini has got to shake up this side or, as I said, we cannot go on like this. I will be in Palermo on Monday and I'll try to wake them myself, as I am furious.”
