Ancelotti: Milan aren't lucky
Saturday 8 November, 2008

Carlo Ancelotti insists Milan’s recent last-gasp victories have more to do with tactics than luck, while he deals with yet more injuries.

His side are top of the Serie A standings and leading their UEFA Cup group as well following late winners over Atalanta, Napoli and Sporting Braga.

“It is true we won those games thanks to a little bit of luck, but we certainly do not owe our position to good fortune,” explained the Coach.

“Don’t forget we beat Napoli at the end, but had the chances to easily do so earlier. I think as a team we are able to take control more towards the end of matches, when the opponent tends to loosen the marking a little and space opens up for us.”

Milan pay visit to Lecce’s Stadio Via del Mare on Sunday evening, an arena where they have not always thrived.

“Lecce are well-organised with a good defence and I think they will maintain their characteristics even though they are facing a side like Milan.

“We have always run into problems away to Lecce, but then again we said the same of Atalanta, so we hope to have similar good fortune here too.”

Last weekend the Rossoneri climbed to the top of the Serie A table for the first time since May 16, 2004.

“Clearly if we win every game now, then we will take the Scudetto, but we cannot make this kind of calculation now,” warned the tactician.

“We are not interested in being the ‘anti-Inter’ team. All we want is to play well and win the title, so Inter are merely one of several sides who will fight with us to the end.”

Massimo Ambrosini and Philippe Senderos have been added to the injury list along with Paolo Maldini, Alessandro Nesta and Andrea Pirlo.

“Senderos has not fully recovered yet, but he is fine. Ambrosini has a calf problem, though these two and Maldini will be back next week.

“Nesta is in America and when he is better, he will return. I hope he can recover, as that is the most important – the only important – thing.”

Nesta has been struggling with a recurring back problem for several years and flew to Miami for specialist treatment this week amid fears his career is over.

Milan squad: Abbiati, Dida, Donnarumma, Antonini, Bonera, Favalli, Jankulovski, Kaladze, Zambrotta, Cardacio, Emerson, Flamini, Gattuso, Borriello, Inzaghi, Kaka, Pato, Seedorf, Shevchenko, Ronaldinho.
