Serie A’s two first female Presidents, Francesca Menarini and Rosella Sensi, will sit together this evening to watch Bologna-Roma.
Sensi made history when she was sworn in following her father’s death in August, followed soon after by Menarini at the Dall’Ara.
“It is a special occasion and I hope it will be a festival for everyone,” said the Bologna patron. “It’s not every day that two women in charge of football clubs get to meet.”
She was appointed when her father Renzo bought out the majority of shares from former President Alfredo Cazzola.
“I felt a bit shocked at first, but I am gaining experience and learning to know the players. I want to be increasingly in sync with them.
“I expected the football world to be exactly as it is, but not to be so swept up in it,” confessed Menarini.
“It is a job that really takes you in. You fall asleep with Bologna in your heart and wake up with Bologna in your heart.”
She has certainly not adopted a more feminine approach to management, having fired Coach Daniele Arrigoni 10 rounds into the campaign and brought in Sinisa Mihajlovic.
“We decided to sack the tactician because the situation made it inevitable,” she said after eight defeats from 10 games.
“The choice of Mihajlovic was shared with my father and the Bologna Board of Directors.”
After Arrigoni’s final match in charge, a 5-1 loss to Cagliari, Menarini dubbed it “a contemptible” performance.
“I am a gritty person who is always fired up. I never let bad results get me down and do not rest on my laurels either.
“I try to keep my emotions in check and clearly last Sunday I made sure the players heard me. They absolutely needed to be shaken up.”
