New Chievo Coach Mimmo Di Carlo concedes he is “surprised” by the positive attitude of his players ahead of the crunch match with Juventus.
“My job, along with the team, the club and the fans, is to take Chievo to safety,” said the man who replaced Beppe Iachini at the end of a nine-match winless streak.
“It will be a long and hard road made of joy and pain, but what counts is being able to fight back with grit. That is something a team must never lack, especially one trying to avoid relegation.
“It’s too early to make evaluations, but the lads surprised me in a positive way. They are putting so much effort in and doing everything to give me all the available options. Aside from the result, I’m convinced they’ll put in a great performance.”
Chievo welcome Juventus to the Bentegodi on Sunday afternoon and are without a victory since the opening weekend, while the Bianconeri are fresh from five straight wins in all competition.
“We must try to dictate the tempo of the game, as if we let them do it, then we would only run into difficulty,” continued former Parma and Mantova boss Di Carlo.
“I am proud to have been chosen by Chievo to start this adventure. I’d say the fans have already won their side of this match by snapping up tickets, now it’s up to us to ensure they have something to cheer.”
The new Coach has no injury or suspension worries to speak of and is said to be planning a 4-3-2-1 system with Erjon Bogdani supported by Antonio Langella and Sergio Pellissier.
