Inzaghi seeks UEFA glory
Wednesday 5 November, 2008

Milan veteran Pippo Inzaghi has his heart set on winning the UEFA Cup and would like to score 300 goals before he retires.

Milan play Sporting Braga tomorrow night and the 35-year-old insists that while the Rossoneri have prioritised the Scudetto this season they are not ignoring their European commitments.

“I realised that the only winners’ medal missing from my collection is a UEFA Cup one,” Inzaghi told Corriere dello Sport. “Milan have also never won the trophy.”

Inzaghi also revealed another motive why Milan want to get to the Final. It will be held in Istanbul, the scene of their infamous collapse in the 2005 Champions League finale.

“I have a score to settle with that city after 2005 against Liverpool. I didn’t play. I was not well. I want to take my revenge.”

When asked whether he was ready to become the top scorer in the history of European competition, Inzaghi replied: “I would have been happy just to have arrived alongside [Andriy] Shevchenko.”

Inzaghi and Raul of Real Madrid have scored 63 times in Europe, while Shevchenko has found the net on 61 occasions. Inzaghi also has 293 career goals to his name. “I want 300.”
