Moratti jibes Milan
Monday 3 November, 2008

Inter President Massimo Moratti has taunted rivals Milan after they opened up a one-point lead at the summit of Serie A on Sunday night.

The Rossoneri beat Napoli 1-0 thanks to German Denis's own goal to go ahead of second placed Udinese and champions Inter.

“I expected that Milan would do well,” admitted Moratti. “They have shown good things in recent matches.

“I didn't know so many years had passed since they were last first in the championship. It's been years since they felt the thrill of first place.”

Milan have not occupied top spot in Serie A since May 16, 2004, which incidentally was the last time the Rossoneri won the Scudetto.

Speaking ahead of Inter's Champions League tie with Cypriot side Anorthosis Famagusta on Tuesday, Moratti revealed just why he believes it will be an important match.

“It would allow us to play the remaining group games more relaxed,” explained Moratti, who in 13 years as President of Inter has yet to taste glory in Europe's premier club competition.

Inter currently top Group B and are three points ahead of their nearest rivals, who happen to be surprise package Anorthosis.

When asked if Inter make him suffer, Moratti replied honestly: “It has always been like this, even in the past.”

Inter threw away a 2-0 lead at the weekend and needed an injury time goal to secure three points at Reggina.

The oil magnate also passed comment on Brazilian striker Adriano, who has been frozen out of the team after turning up late for training following a night in a local disco last week.

On being asked when L'Imperatore would be reintegrated into the squad, Moratti said: “I don't believe he will be.”
