Ballardini targets Milan double
Sunday 30 November, 2008

Palermo boss Davide Ballardini maintains they can continue to be Milan’s Boogeymen if they play without fear.

Last season the Sicilians beat Carlo Ancelotti’s side 2-1 in this fixture, so excitement is growing ahead of tonight’s clash at the Stadio Barbera.

“If we can repeat the first half we played against Inter, then we are on the right track,” he said of that tie that ended 2-0 to the visitors thanks to two moments of Zlatan Ibrahimovic magic.

“When facing a side like Milan that has so many players that can hold on to the ball, the important thing is to stay tight, hit them in space and cut off their supply lines.

“Palermo will have to play the way they know how – with great intensity and absolutely no fear.”

The Rosanero have been struggling for form recently, but Ballardini is confident that won’t affect his squad’s performance.

“We want to compete against any team made of great champions and that means we intend to play our style of football.

“Considering Milan are targeting the Scudetto, they have the pressure to always seek victory, whereas we can play this tie without pressure and that can be a psychological advantage.

“We hope to make this a memorable evening for our fans and to give a good impression with quality football, hard work and determination.”

Palermo have already scared Inter and beaten Juventus, so how does Ballardini think they will fare against the Rossoneri?

“In my view Milan will win the Scudetto, as they have a broad squad to choose from and the advantage of not playing in the energy-sapping Champions League. They are world class.”
