Adrian Mutu was a heartbeat away from joining Roma this summer, but the director who brokered that deal now says: “We don’t want him!”
When Fiorentina travel to the Olimpico on Sunday afternoon, Mutu is sure to receive a frosty reception, as he turned down the move when the two clubs had already agreed a fee.
There were reports this week of a renewed interest from the Giallorossi, but transfer guru Daniele Prade insisted times have changed.
“Mutu is no longer of any interest and we don’t want him,” he told the Corriere dello Sport newspaper.
“Now Mutu is only an opponent like any other and we want to beat him.”
The deal for the Romanian was done with Fiorentina announcing they had agreed a price and Pradé was travelling towards Florence to close the paperwork.
However, Mutu and Coach Cesare Prandelli came together and confirmed they did not want the £18m transfer to go through.
