Frey philosophical in defeat
Wednesday 26 November, 2008

Fiorentina goalkeeper Sebastien Frey was trying to stay positive after last night's Champions League exit.

The Viola fell at the first hurdle in Europe's biggest club competition after losing 2-1 to Lyon in a dramatic encounter at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

Cesare Prandelli's men must now pick themselves up and avoid defeat against Steaua Bucharest to book the consolation of a UEFA Cup berth.

“The Champions League was a wonderful adventure and we are sorry it has come to an end,” Frey said after the final whistle.

“Perhaps right now we aren't a big enough side for this great competition and we aren't quite ready to mix it with the best.

“Now we will surely find the right motivation to give our best against Steaua because it's important to play in the UEFA Cup.

“It would be of great benefit to us and especially those players who get less playing time in Serie A.”

Frey, who has regularly been linked to Milan, also refuted rumours that he will leave Florence in search of a bigger side.

“Looking beyond the disappointment of the defeat, we are all in the same boat and nobody should jump ship,” he stressed.
