THE GOOD
Bari: Just maybe, Bari's days of underachievement are coming to an end. The Galletti have finally found some momentum under Antonio Conte and have joined the promotion contenders after going six games unbeaten. Things have rarely looked so good at the Stadio San Nicola since David Platt was wearing the Biancorossi jersey.
THE BAD
Salernitana: The surprise package of the early season is being unwrapped and their lack of genuine Serie B class is emerging. The newly promoted Seahorses haven't won in five games and are hurtling back towards the third tier.
THE UGLY
Ascoli: When will the nightmare end for punch-drunk Ascoli? With Serie A football in the fans' recent memories, the Woodpeckers expected to build on a positive end to last season to launch a play-off push. Instead, the Marche men are falling to pieces on and off the pitch. Ridden with financial problems and in penultimate place, new boss Vincenzo Chiarenza has had no effect yet but this is more than a job for one man.
STAR OF THE SHOW
Salvatore Mastronunzio (Ancona): These are exciting times for journeyman come good Mastronunzio. The 29-year-old has toiled in the lower Leagues with moderate success for his whole career, but he seems to have invested in some shooting boots. With nine goals - just one of which was a penalty - Toto is top of the Capocannoniere chart and even being linked with a Serie A switch.
COMEBACK KIDS
Avellino: A month ago, journalists were already writing Avellino's obituary. But unheralded new boss Salvatore Campilongo has had a miraculous effect and the resurgent Irpini are eight games unbeaten. Problems off the pitch relating to the club's rickety stadium and equally rickety finances linger, but Avellino are out of the relegation mire.
AXED
Surprisingly, the notoriously impatient Presidents of Serie B decided to stick rather than twist this month. However, it's just a matter of time before the music starts again in this game of managerial musical chairs and Salernitana's Fabrizio Castori is likely to be the man left standing.
