Pirlo returns for Rossoneri
Saturday 22 November, 2008

Carlo Ancelotti welcomes Andrea Pirlo back after two months and reveals he could start the match against Torino.

The Milan midfielder has been out of action since picking up a thigh strain on September 16, but is finally ready for his comeback.

“He could even be in the starting XI,” revealed Ancelotti in today's Press conference. “Rino [Gattuso] has done well in his place, but Andrea has crucial characteristics for us, such as his ability to place long passes.”

It will be interesting to see how Pirlo fits into the team now that they have found form playing without him in their system.

Kaka is also fit to start despite international duty with Brazil midweek and Gianluca Zambrotta returns.

It is hoped with Pirlo's presence the strikers can improve their scoring rate, especially Andriy Shevchenko, who has barely featured since the move from Chelsea.

“We have rotated the squad and this had an effect on the individual scoring record of the players,” insisted the Coach.

“In my view Sheva has reached a good level of fitness and is ready for a match at the top level. Unfortunately we are in a team that has a very high level of competition.”

He could get his chance against Torino on Sunday evening, where the Rossoneri hope to avoid a costly draw like the ones away to Cagliari and Lecce.

“We must continue to play well on our travels, but certainly with a different result. Those draws were because we met two teams who at that moment were in great shape.

“Torino must not be underestimated either, as they are a passionate side and their fans will fill the stadium.”
