Ruggeri accepts sanctions
Monday 19 November, 2007

Atalanta President Ivan Ruggeri has confirmed that he won’t be launching an appeal against the closure of the club’s Curva Nord.

The Orobici will be forced to close one end of the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia after fans caused the November 11 clash against Milan to be abandoned.

Nerazzurri chief Ruggeri has reacted with angry attacks on the violent minority who caused the sanctions to be imposed on the club, but the decision won’t be challenged.

“We won’t launch any appeal,” he stressed. “We accept the decisions that have been made by the forces of justice.

“I want to thank everyone who has put us in this position,” Ruggeri continued sarcastically. “I hope that they know the damage they have brought upon the club.

“Perhaps I didn’t expect such a big punishment, but what happened was broadcast all over the world and we can’t turn a blind eye to it.”

Coach Luigi Del Neri was reluctant to comment any further than to support the ban.

“The event happened on the Curva and it’s right therefore that the Curva pay the price,” he said dismissively.

Meanwhile, there is also disorder within the playing staff as three-goal hitman Riccardo Zampagna has been cut out of the club’s roster for “an offensive attitude towards the Coach”.
