Crespo homes in on Real deal
Wednesday 19 November, 2008

Unsettled Inter marksman Hernan Crespo has praised Real Madrid, as his agent prepares for negotiations at the Bernabeu.

Crespo has become surplus to requirements under Jose Mourinho this term, given the wealth of attacking options for the Italian champions.

Nerazzurri President Massimo Moratti has told Crespo that he can leave if he wants to and Spanish newspaper AS claims the Argentine striker is headed for Real Madrid.

The 33-year-old's agent Fernando Hidalgo is due to meet Merengues sporting director Predrag Mijatovic later this afternoon to discuss terms for a move.

“I have always been excited about European and Spanish football,” Crespo admitted in an interview.

“When you speak about Real Madrid you associate them with the history of the game.

“When I visited the Bernabeu with Lazio in the Champions League 2000-01 we were full of fear and respect because Real were at their best.

“I brought my whole family from Argentina to watch and they saw me score, even if we lost 3-2 and I got to swap shirts with Luis Figo.

“The new Real squad is also packed with great players. I was always convinced that Gonzalo Higuain would become a top player - he thrilled me as a striker when he was at River Plate.

“As for Raul, he is a special player. He gets criticised, but Madrid turn to him when things get ugly. I think his impact will be noticed even more when he decides to retire.”
