Monday 17 November, 2008 |
| Udinese midfielder Gaetano D'Agostino has thanked Coach Pasquale Marino for helping him secure a place in Marcello Lippi's Italy squad.
The former Under-21 star earned his first call-up to the senior side for the friendly against Greece with some superb performances for the Zebrette this term.
It's the realisation of a dream, the Sicilian ace enthused.
I want to dedicate this call-up to my boss Marino who has always believed in my abilities, even when things weren't going well from an individual perspective.
As happened with Andrea Pirlo under Carlo Ancelotti, I have found a better tactical awareness under Marino's leadership.
However, D'Agostino's Udinese were beaten 1-0 by lowly Reggina yesterday afternoon.
We weren't the usual Udinese yesterday, the 26-year-old admitted.
We put in a horrible performance, but we still deserve our position in the League table.
Our objective is to stay at the top for as long as possible and we also want to do well in the UEFA Cup.
Our model is the Fiorentina side of a few years ago that managed to do so well with so many youngsters.
