Gasperini's Old Lady anguish
Friday 14 November, 2008

Genoa boss Gian Piero Gasperini was left to rue his side's missed chances after last night's defeat at Juventus.

The Rossoblu had a number of opportunities and were unlucky to lose 4-1 after shipping two late goals.

“Juventus are a great team and they are the best at imposing themselves,” Gasperini lamented.

“They get everyone forward when they are attacking but if you are fast enough you can hit them on the break.

“In the first 20 minutes we played really well but we missed a lot of chances and we were a little fragile.

“Strangely, we played better when we were 2-0 down, but we wasted opportunities such as Raffaele Palladino and Giuseppe Sculli's chances. Those were our chances to reopen the game.

“We certainly weren't lucky, but we have to be more focused because we gave away a slightly stupid goal.

“We want to play good football and to win the affection of the public and this evening we managed to do that in part.”

Gasperini concluded by admiring the contribution of Juve skipper Alessandro Del Piero, who set up Zdenek Grygera and Vincenzo Iaquinta's goals.

“Del Piero? He was everywhere,” he said.

“He always wants to be the best. He is very meticulous in his preparations and you can see that on the pitch.

“He chases everyone down and he always has the right words for everyone.”
