Italy have dropped to third place in the FIFA World Rankings, but Fabio Capello steers England back into the top 10.
The Azzurri and 2006 World Cup winners had been second behind Euro 2008 holders Spain, but were leapfrogged by Germany this month.
Italy currently lead their 2010 World Cup qualifying group thanks to three wins and a 0-0 draw with Bulgaria.
Other changes in the top 10 saw Holland overtake Carlos Dunga’s struggling Brazil and Argentina make their way past Croatia to go sixth.
Russia exchange places with the Czech Republic, while Italian Coach Capello has steered England up four spots to go joint 10th with Portugal.
