There are reports that Milan are waiting on Didier Drogba’s UEFA punishment before staging a transfer swoop for as little as £15m.
The Chelsea striker was out of control after Wednesday’s Champions League semi-final elimination at the hands of Barcelona.
He screamed at referee Tom Henning Ovrebo and witnesses claim the behaviour became even more extreme going into the players’ tunnel.
UEFA are analysing the official reports and are set to make a decision next week, which could result in a lengthy ban.
The possibility of missing out on the Champions League for several of the group phase games is a terrible blow to the Blues and he may not see his contract (which expires in 2010) renewed.
Drogba had been heavily linked with Inter and a reunion with his former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, but this lack of discipline could scupper that deal.
Instead it’s reported in today’s Corriere dello Sport that Milan are ready to intervene and take the Ivory Coast striker to Serie A.
Depending on the length of the ban, Drogba could be available for as little as £15m around half the price-tag Arsenal have slapped on Milan’s first choice Emmanuel Adebayor.
Naturally the Rossoneri would also have to take into account how long they would go in the Champions League without the hitman, too.
