Reports suggest that Inter chief Massimo Moratti is preparing to reward his side by signing Liverpool star Steven Gerrard if they win the Scudetto.
Barring a sensational series of results, Inter will retain the title and are expected to do so with victory over Siena at San Siro this weekend.
But it hasnt been all smiles in the Beneamata camp and their Champions League exit at the hands of Liverpool has left Moratti ready to ring the changes in the summer.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Inter President is determined to secure the services of Liverpool captain Gerrard - one of the men responsible for this seasons European defeat.
Moratti is reportedly willing to put an offer of around £28m on the table and believes there is a chance of bringing the England international to San Siro.
While Liverpool are Gerrards first love and suggestions he could move to Italy seem far-fetched, uncertainty over the future of the Anfield outfit caused by an ownership battle seems to have unsettled the 27-year-old.
Gerrard has made a plea to the club to spend heavily in the summer to create a side capable of competing for the Premier League title next term and there are suggestions that he will quit if his demands are not satisfied.
Some sources insist that Morattis desire to snap up Gerrard springs from a plan to replace Coach Roberto Mancini with former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, who is a known admirer of the midfield talent.
Despite regular denials from Inter, Mourinhos name continues to be linked with the bench after the Portuguese tactician bought a house in Monza a city just 10 miles north of Milan.
