Livorno defender Fabio Galante has almost given up hope of avoiding the drop as he feels there is a “one per cent chance of survival.”
With two games remaining, Livorno need a miracle to avoid returning to Serie B after four seasons amongst the elite.
The sale of talismanic captain and goal machine Cristiano Lucarelli last summer seems to have proven fatal with the Amaranto propping up the table and needing to beat Torino this weekend to have any chance of staying afloat.
“We have a one per cent chance of staying up,” the Galante lamented.
“It’s sad to have to say that because we had pulled ourselves together with nine games unbeaten, but we didn’t take advantage of a series of home games against fellow strugglers.
“Now we need to take stock as this cycle comes to an end. This has happened as a result of our own mistakes, but also some bad luck.”
In addition to triumphing over Toro at the Stadio Armando Picchi on Sunday, Livorno must hope that Catania lose at Juventus, Reggina beat Empoli and Parma fall at Fiorentina.
