Milan are being linked with Barcelona captain Carles Puyol as they look to strengthen their back line.
The Rossoneri's defence needs an overhaul and they have already signed Thiago Silva and Felipe Mattioni.
But with Paolo Maldini retiring and Alessandro Nesta plagued by injury problems, transfer guru Adriano Galliani is expected to open the wallet again.
According to Tuttosport, Milan are lining up Barcelona star Puyol to play alongside Thiago Silva in central defence next term.
The Turin-based newspaper claims that Liverpool's Daniel Agger was the original target before he renewed his contract.
Palermo rising star Simon Kjaer was a possible objective, but he failed to impress scouts sent to watch him several times this season.
Puyol, who is 31, would bring some necessary experience but is still in the prime of his career. He has made nearly 300 appearances for the Catalan giants.
While it may be hard to persuade such a stalwart to leave Barça, there are whispers that he would like a foreign experience before it is too late.
