Siena make Scudetto pledge
Tuesday 6 May, 2008

Francesco Totti thinks Inter will win the Scudetto on Sunday, but Siena’s general manager isn’t so sure. “I’m a Roma fan and I told them to get a result!”

The gap at the top has now been cut to three points with just two games to go, but if the Nerazzurri beat Siena at San Siro this Sunday then the race is mathematically over.

“I think Inter will win on Sunday. There are many regrets over the way our season went, but that is part of football,” mused Totti on Sky Italia.

He was initially ruled out of action for six to eight months after damaging the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee.

“Physically I am much better and when I can I’ll resume playing tennis, too. I should be back for the start of next season.”

If Totti has given up on Siena’s hopes of tripping up Inter, then the same cannot be said of Robur general manager Giovanni Lombardi Stronati.

“I wish all it would take was us stopping Inter to give Roma the Scudetto, but I can assure everyone that we will do our part. Roma should focus only on Atalanta and Catania,” he smiled.

A few of Siena’s players revealed this week that Lombardi Stronati demanded a result at San Siro from the squad that has now secured safety.

“If the players said it, then it must be true… It is well known I am a Romanista and Roma represent part of my family history. Clearly I would love to stop Inter and we will try to do so.

“Besides, we are missing at least two points to beat our all-time Serie A record, which is currently 43, so that is further motivation.”

There could be another layer of loyalties at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza as the Scudetto race hits boiling point.

“I want to win and would love Daniele Portanova to score a goal. I know he is a Lazio supporter, but he owes me one…”
