Adrian Mutu will be suspended for the rest of the season, while Livorno are hammered by bans after the brawl that followed their defeat to Atalanta.
Fiorentina’s hopes of recapturing fourth place have been badly hit with news that Mutu has received a two-match ban for insulting the referee.
The Romanian was dismissed in the final minutes of their 2-1 defeat at Cagliari on Sunday afternoon, as he received a booking for a challenge, then continued his protests until he was shown a second yellow card.
This means his campaign is effectively over, so he will miss the Viola’s crunch ties with Parma and Torino.
Meanwhile, the Disciplinary Commission has come down hard on Livorno following the brawl after the final whistle of their 3-2 loss in Bergamo.
The bottom of the table club had fought back to 2-2 before Simone Padoin’s lob secured Atalanta’s win in stoppages.
After the final whistle a group of furious Livorno players ran to attack Padoin in the tunnel, accusing him of scoring a goal Atalanta did not ‘need’, as the Orobici have nothing more to play for this season.
The incident has cost Alessandro Grandoni a five-match ban, while Emanuele Filippini is sidelined for three and Giovanni Pasquale two games.
Livorno teammates David Balleri, Antonio Filippini and Simone Pavan are handed one-match suspensions.
The other players banned for one game are: Aronica (Reggina), Blasi, Santacroce (Napoli), Budel (Empoli), Conti (Cagliari), Criscito (Genoa), Guarente (Atalanta), Molinaro (Juventus), Pasqual (Fiorentina) and Pirlo (Milan).
