Matrix distraught after derby
Tuesday 6 May, 2008

Inter stopper Marco Materazzi has spoken of his anguish at losing Sunday’s derby against Milan.

The leaders knew that victory over the Rossoneri at San Siro would see them clinch the Scudetto, but they were beaten 2-1 while Roma thrashed Sampdoria to close the gap to three points.

“Sunday was a disappointment,” Materazzi explained in a blog in his personal website.

“Believe me, we felt the pain of defeat more than anyone and you can’t imagine the sadness there was in the dressing room.”

Now the Nerazzurri must finish the job against Siena this weekend if they are to prevent the title race going to the final day.

“You can’t choose when you win a Scudetto,” the Matrix continued.

“While I understand some of you feel it is a relief that we have another chance to do so at home, it is scant consolation.

“Nothing would have been better than winning on Sunday and it always hurts to lose a derby.

“But that’s the way that it goes and we need to put it behind us. First we have to think about the Coppa Italia game against Lazio in Rome on Wednesday because that is our secondary objective and then we must beat Siena.

“No more words are necessary. We know what we have to do and now we must do it.”
