Mancini: This changes nothing
Sunday 4 May, 2008

Roberto Mancini insists “nothing has changed” after Inter’s derby defeat re-opened the Scudetto race.

“Today we lost, but nothing has changed,” assured the Coach following a 2-1 loss to rivals Milan.

The Nerazzurri had planned title celebrations this afternoon, but instead found themselves with only a three-point lead over Roma.

“The big party will happen when we win. I always thought it would be next Sunday against Siena.

“In the first half Milan did well, but the game was under control. After conceding the second goal we started to really play and would have deserved a draw.”

Pippo Inzaghi and Kaka put the Rossoneri 2-0 in front before a Julio Cruz free kick sparked a comeback.

Mancio had hinted this week he would field Mario Balotelli, but left the 17-year-old on the bench until the final stages.

“We had several different players on yellow cards and could not afford to let them all play only to lose them next Sunday.

“Besides, I hardly think Cruz and Hernan Crespo can be considered a surprise pick.”

The title race is now wide open, although if Inter finish level on points with Roma then the Nerazzurri will take it thanks to their superior record in direct confrontations.
